The GBP/USD forecast for 10 July 2026 reads cable at 1.3410, up through the 1.3400 band that had capped the range for weeks. A softer dollar and easing US yields into next Tuesday’s June CPI print are the driver. The desk maps 1.3489 then the 1.3500 round number above, with 1.3400 now the pivot back to first support.

The setup at a glance

Cable finally cleared it. The 1.3400 band that had capped every rally attempt through late June has broken, and GBP/USD is trading 1.3410 with the dollar on its second consecutive pullback. The tape this morning is not a sterling story. It is a dollar story with sterling as the beneficiary.

The June FOMC minutes landed hawkish on Wednesday. The committee held 3.50 to 3.75 percent, flagged upside inflation risks, and a few officials judged another hike could become appropriate. The dollar rallied on the print, then faded, then faded again. That fake-out is now a two-day dollar pullback across the complex: the euro pressing 1.1475, gold reclaiming 4,100, USD/JPY near 161.5 and falling. Cable is the cleanest expression of it, because the 1.3400 break is a fresh structural event, not just a drift.

Named levels worth watching (10 July 2026)

Upside liquidity ↑

  • 1.3489, the next resistance now the 1.3400 band has broken, first liquidity above current price
  • 1.3500, the round number and the two-month-high objective, the level the tape gravitates to on any CPI-driven dollar leg lower

Downside liquidity ↓

  • 1.3400, the old resistance now flipped to first support, the pivot that decides whether the breakout holds
  • 1.3357, the next support beneath, first shelf inside the old range
  • 1.3300, then the 1.3150 June low, the deeper floor under the structure

The macro setup behind the GBP/USD forecast

The dollar is doing the walking here, and everything else is on the ride. DXY at 100.90 is on a second pullback, chopping between the 200-period average capping at 101.02 and the 50-period beneath at 99.89. The hawkish June minutes did not stick. The market has already looked through the “few officials” hike talk and is trading the next data catalyst instead, which is June US CPI on Tuesday 14 July at 8:30am ET. Everything between now and that print is positioning.

The tape is two sided, and this matters for how cable trades from here. Oil ripped roughly 11 percent over two days on the US-Iran escalation, but it EASED today, slipping back below 73 dollars. The US 10-year yield eased with it to 4.54 percent from 4.57 percent, a second session down, as that oil pullback cooled the near-term inflation scare. So today’s tape is softer dollar, easing yields, risk FX firmer. Not a fresh inflation spike. That distinction is why cable can break 1.3400 today without needing a UK data catalyst to justify it. The live read on how these threads plait together drops daily inside the MACRO MASTERY desk.

Structurally, though, the inflation risk is still the swing that caps the dollar’s downside. Oil is elevated, the Iran war remains live (Trump has said the ceasefire is over and warned on Kharg Island and a possible Hormuz blockade per CNBC), and the Fed is signalling higher-for-longer. A hot CPI print reasserts all of that and drags cable back inside the range. A soft CPI extends the pullback and lets 1.3500 come into view. Cable typically tracks the broad dollar through a data run, so the desk treats this GBP/USD move as a dollar-pullback breakout with the UK leg secondary until CPI decides the Fed path.

Multi-timeframe read

On the daily, the structure has shifted. Six weeks of failure at 1.3400 have been resolved higher, and price is closing (as of the London open) above that band for the first time since the mid-May peak. The daily body sits clean above the level, which is what the desk wants to see when a break is meant to hold rather than trap. The June low at 1.3150 anchors the deeper floor, so the range that was 1.3150 to 1.3400 has now been extended.

On H4, the tape is doing what a healthy break should do: the pullbacks into the 1.3400 handle are being bought. That is the flip from resistance to support playing out in real time. If the desk sees a clean H4 close back below 1.3400 with follow-through, the break becomes suspect. Until then it is intact.

Intraday the tape is thin because it is Friday and CPI is Tuesday. The desk expects choppy consolidation between 1.3400 and 1.3489 through the London and NY sessions, with a real directional resolution parked until the CPI print. That is the honest read. Position adjustment, not trend, into the weekend. The MACRO MASTERY desk covers CPI live as the print lands, which is the moment cable’s next leg gets decided.

Scenario map for the GBP/USD forecast into CPI

Bull case, roughly 55 percent weight. The dollar pullback extends through Friday and Monday’s positioning session, and June CPI on Tuesday prints in line with or below consensus. In this scenario, cable holds above 1.3400 through the CPI print, then pushes into 1.3489 as the first liquidity pocket above current price. A soft CPI unlocks the 1.3500 round number, which coincides with the two-month-high objective. The prevailing dollar softness across the complex (gold at 4,120, USD/JPY falling from 161.5) provides confirmation this is a cross-asset dollar move and not an isolated cable squeeze.

Bear case, roughly 45 percent weight. A hot June CPI reasserts the “higher-for-longer” narrative from the June FOMC minutes, or an oil re-spike on a Hormuz escalation rearms the near-term inflation impulse, or both. In this scenario, cable rejects back below 1.3400, and a daily close inside the old range flips the structure back to failed-breakout. 1.3357 is the next shelf beneath, 1.3300 the second, and 1.3150 (the June low) the deeper floor if the reversal has real weight. The desk’s read is that a fake break here would take cable back to the 1.3300 area faster than most would expect, because trapped longs above 1.3400 are the fuel.

What would invalidate the read

A daily close back below 1.3400 with H4 follow-through flips the structure to failed-breakout and puts 1.3357 then 1.3300 into play. A hot June CPI print on Tuesday 14 July (upside surprise on core), or a fresh Iran/Hormuz escalation that spikes oil hard and firms the 10-year yield back above 4.60 percent, would be the catalysts. Cable is intrinsically a dollar trade this week, so a broad-dollar bid across gold, the euro and yen invalidates the setup regardless of anything UK-specific.

Final takeaway on the GBP/USD forecast

Cable at 1.3410 has broken the 1.3400 band that capped it, and the near-term line of least resistance is up while price holds that level. This is a dollar-pullback breakout with 1.3489 then 1.3500 as the upside liquidity, 1.3400 as the pivot and CPI on Tuesday 14 July as the decider. The desk’s stance is that the break holds unless CPI reasserts the Fed, and that trade is the whole week compressed into one print. Frequently asked questions

What is the GBP/USD forecast for 10 July 2026?

The GBP/USD forecast for 10 July 2026 has cable trading at 1.3410 after breaking above the 1.3400 band that had capped the pair for weeks. The dollar is on a second pullback into next Tuesday’s June US CPI print. Upside levels sit at 1.3489 then the 1.3500 round number. Downside levels are 1.3400 as the flipped pivot, 1.3357, and 1.3300 beneath.

Why did GBP/USD break above 1.3400 today?

The break is a dollar-pullback move, not a UK-specific catalyst. The hawkish June FOMC minutes released on 8 July failed to hold the dollar bid, and a second consecutive session of DXY weakness combined with easing US 10-year yields (4.54 percent, down from 4.57) has lifted risk-sensitive FX broadly. Gold reclaimed 4,100, the euro is pressing 1.1475, and USD/JPY near 161.5 is falling. Cable is the cleanest expression of the dollar softening.

What is the key level to watch on GBP/USD this week?

1.3400 is the pivot. It capped the range for six weeks, and now cable is trading above it at 1.3410, that level is the swing between a valid breakout and a failed break. A daily close back below 1.3400 with H4 follow-through would flip the structure and open 1.3357 then 1.3300 to the downside. Above 1.3400, 1.3489 is first liquidity and 1.3500 is the round-number magnet.

How could US CPI on 14 July move GBP/USD?

June US CPI lands Tuesday 14 July at 8:30am ET, and it is the swing print into the 28 to 29 July FOMC. A soft print extends the dollar pullback and lets cable push into 1.3489 and 1.3500. A hot print reasserts the higher-for-longer narrative from the June minutes, likely firms the 10-year back toward 4.60 percent, and pressures cable back inside the old 1.3150 to 1.3400 range. This is the decider for the week.

Does the US-Iran escalation affect GBP/USD directly?

Indirectly, through the dollar and yields. Oil spiked roughly 11 percent over two days on the US-Iran strikes and Trump’s warnings on Kharg Island and the Strait of Hormuz. That oil bid feeds the near-term inflation impulse, firms US yields, and tends to support the dollar structurally. Today oil eased below 73 dollars and yields eased with it, which is why cable is bid. A fresh Hormuz shock would reverse that dynamic quickly.

What invalidates the GBP/USD bullish read?

Three things. First, a daily close back below 1.3400 with H4 confirmation, which flips the break to a failed break. Second, a hot June CPI print on Tuesday that lifts the dollar across the complex. Third, an Iran or Hormuz escalation that spikes oil hard and pushes the 10-year yield back above 4.60 percent. Any one of those forces a reassessment; two of them together take cable back toward 1.3300.

Is 1.3500 realistic on GBP/USD this month?

1.3500 is the round-number objective and the two-month-high target, roughly 90 pips above current spot at 1.3410. It is realistic on a soft CPI and a continuation of the current dollar pullback, particularly if oil stays contained and the 10-year drifts lower. The scenario weights it around 55 percent in the near term, contingent on the CPI print and no fresh Iran escalation. A hot CPI removes that path.
