What is driving the dollar today

The dollar just tagged a fresh six-month high and this is a regime, not a spike. The story that still drives the tape is Kevin Warsh’s hawkish hold at the 17 June FOMC: rates held, a cut taken off the table, upside inflation risk flagged, and a 2026 dot plot that now carries a hike bias. Higher expected US rates plus firm real yields widen the dollar’s carry advantage, and the Dixie has pushed to a fresh six-month high at 101.11, trading around 100.96.

Today is a global flash PMI day, not a US data day. The euro-area prints landed soft but better than feared (French services 47.4, French manufacturing 50.7 back in expansion), there is a risk-off undertone in Asia after a sharp drop in South Korean equities, and the currency-strength tape has the dollar as the strongest major. With no US tier-one release, the dollar leg is positioning and the rate path rather than a fresh number. Watch the calendar into month-end Core PCE.

Key DXY levels for today

Direction Level Why it matters (confluence)
Resistance 102.00 Round number plus pivot R3, the next upside objective
Resistance 101.50 Pivot R2 plus the round half-number
Resistance 101.08 to 101.11 Prior-day high, today’s session high, the round 101 handle
Spot ~100.96 Dual-sourced: Yahoo 100.96, CNBC 100.99 (today’s high 101.11)
Support 100.50 to 100.76 Round 100.50, prior-day low, pivot S2 and S3
Support 99.38 to 99.50 The higher-low shelf plus the prior-week low
Support 99.00 Round number plus the rising 50-day SMA, the trend invalidation

How the desk reads it

On structure the break and hold above the 100.00 handle and the 101.02 prior-day close confirm the continuation leg off the 99.38 to 99.50 higher low. The read stays constructive while 99.38 to 99.50 holds on a daily close, and only a daily close back below that higher low would invalidate the bull leg.

Room for the other side

Be balanced about it. The dollar is stretched after a hard run and today is a narrow inside day right under the high, so a profit-taking dip toward 100.50 or the 100.00 handle would be normal inside an uptrend, not a reversal. Trade the level, not the narrative.

DXY FAQ

Why is the dollar index hitting fresh highs?
Because the Fed’s hawkish hold lifted the expected US rate path with a hike-bias 2026 dot plot and kept real yields firm, which widens the dollar’s carry advantage. With a risk-off undertone and no US data today, haven flows keep rotating through the dollar.

What is the key support level on DXY?
The line that defines the trend is the 99.38 to 99.50 higher low. Above it the uptrend is intact; a daily close below it would be the first real warning.

Could the dollar pull back from here?
Yes. It is stretched after a strong run and today is a narrow inside day under the high, so a profit-taking dip toward 100.50 or 100.00 is a normal pause inside the uptrend rather than a reversal.
