Star Trader account types at a glance
Star Trader keeps its line-up deliberately simple. There are three live account types, a free demo, and a swap-free option that sits on top of the live accounts rather than replacing them. The three live tiers are the Standard account, the ECN Raw account and the Prime ECN account, and the choice between them comes down to one question: how much you trade.
From our desk, the structure is the familiar offshore broker template. A low-barrier spread-only account to get people in the door, a raw-spread account for traders with real size, and a high-deposit institutional tier for high-volume flow. None of the account types change the underlying regulatory entity, so the same offshore protections apply whichever one you pick.
Standard account
The Standard account is the entry point. It uses spread-only pricing, with EUR/USD quoted from roughly 1.3 to 1.4 pips and no separate commission charged. The minimum deposit is about 50 dollars, and micro lots from 0.01 are supported, so a small balance can still trade properly sized positions.
This account suits smaller-balance traders who do not yet have the position size to make a commission-bearing raw account economical. Because everything is baked into the spread, the cost is simple to read, but it is wider than the raw tiers once you start trading meaningful volume. For most beginners this is the sensible starting point.
Star Trader account types compared
| Account | Spreads | Commission | Min deposit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | From around 1.3 to 1.4 pips on EUR/USD | None (spread only) | About 50 dollars | Beginners and smaller balances |
| ECN Raw | From 0.0 to 0.3 pips | Around 6 dollars round-turn per lot | About 50 dollars (200 dollars realistic) | Active traders with real size |
| Prime ECN | From 0.0 pips | Around 4 dollars round-turn per lot | About 10,000 dollars | High-volume and algorithmic traders |
| Demo | Mirrors live pricing | Mirrors live account | 0 dollars | Testing before going live |
Prime ECN and the ECN Raw account
Star Trader runs two raw-spread tiers. The standard ECN Raw account offers spreads from 0.0 to around 0.3 pips on EUR/USD during liquid hours, with a commission of roughly 6 dollars round-turn per standard lot. The technical minimum sits near 50 dollars, though a working balance of around 200 dollars is more realistic before the raw structure pays off.
The Prime ECN account is the high-volume tier. It pairs raw spreads from 0.0 pips with a lower commission of around 4 dollars round-turn per lot, but it carries a minimum deposit of roughly 10,000 dollars. It runs on MT4 and MT5 and supports expert advisors and algorithmic strategies. The lower commission only matters at scale: a trader doing ten lots a day pays about 40 dollars in commission daily, so the maths has to clear the higher deposit before Prime ECN makes sense over the standard ECN tier.
Swap-free and Islamic accounts
Star Trader does offer swap-free trading for clients who need it on religious grounds. Rather than being a separate account type, it is a conversion applied to a live account: you open a regular account and ask customer support to switch it to swap-free, typically with supporting documentation requested to prevent misuse.
Note the grace period. On a swap-free margin FX contract held overnight, no swap charge or credit applies for the first seven days the position is held. Beyond seven days the broker may apply a swap charge or credit at its discretion, so this is not an unlimited free hold for long-term carry positions.
Demo account
There is a free demo account with no minimum deposit and full feature parity with the live accounts. It is the right place to confirm execution, platform behaviour and how the spreads and commission feel before you commit real money.
Our standard advice applies: demo the exact account type you intend to fund, on the same platform, so what you test is what you trade. Demo fills are not live fills, but the platform mechanics and instrument list will carry across.
Which Star Trader account should you pick?
If you are starting out or trading modest size, the Standard account is the cleaner choice: one cost number, no commission arithmetic, and a 50 dollar barrier. Once your monthly lot volume grows, the ECN Raw account usually works out cheaper overall because the tighter raw spread more than offsets the round-turn commission.
Prime ECN only earns its place if you are a genuinely high-volume trader who can both meet the 10,000 dollar minimum and run enough lots for the lower commission to matter. The honest test is to calculate your average monthly lot volume against each cost structure before you fund anything. The arithmetic is straightforward, and it tells you the answer more reliably than the marketing does.
Frequently asked questions
What account types does Star Trader offer?
Star Trader offers three live account types: a Standard spread-only account, an ECN Raw account and a high-volume Prime ECN account. There is also a free demo account, and existing accounts can be converted to swap-free on request.
What is the Star Trader Prime ECN account?
The Prime ECN account is Star Trader’s high-volume tier. It offers raw spreads from 0.0 pips with a commission of around 4 dollars round-turn per lot, runs on MT4 and MT5, and carries a minimum deposit of roughly 10,000 dollars. The lower commission only pays off at higher trading volumes.
What is the Star Trader minimum deposit?
The Standard and standard ECN accounts start from about 50 dollars. The Prime ECN account requires a much higher minimum of around 10,000 dollars. The demo account has no minimum deposit.
Does Star Trader have a swap-free account?
Yes. Star Trader supports swap-free, Islamic-style trading by converting a live account on request, usually with supporting documentation. A grace period applies, with no swap charge for the first seven days a position is held overnight, after which charges may apply.
Which Star Trader account is best for most traders?
Most traders should start on the Standard account for its simple spread-only pricing and low barrier, then move to the ECN Raw account once their trading volume makes the raw spread plus commission cheaper overall. Prime ECN suits only genuinely high-volume traders.
