Gold is being squeezed from two sides. XAU/USD has slipped below $4,100 and is testing the $4,050 shelf, trading in a roughly $4,050 to $4,115 range and sitting near a seven-month low. The desk has been calling this area as the liquidity to watch, and price is now leaning on it.
Why gold is under pressure
This is a rates and dollar story first. Markets are pricing a 37.6% chance of a Federal Reserve hike on 29 July, the dollar index is at a 14-month high, and tighter policy expectations lift real yields. Gold does not pay a yield, so when the return on cash rises, the cost of holding bullion rises with it, and gold tends to soften. On top of that, the interim US-Iran peace agreement has eased the inflation and geopolitical premium that had been supporting the metal. Two supports pulled at once is why gold is grinding rather than holding.
The inflation calendar is the swing factor: core PCE on Thursday 25 June, then payrolls on 2 July and CPI on 14 July. Hot prints feed the hike story and keep gold heavy. A clear miss is the most likely thing to put a floor back under it.

FAQ
Why is the gold price falling in June 2026? Gold is under pressure because Fed hike expectations have firmed to about 37.6% for July, lifting the dollar and real yields, while the interim US-Iran peace agreement has eased the inflation and geopolitical premium that supported bullion.
What are the key gold levels right now? XAU/USD is testing the $4,050 shelf. A break lower opens $4,000 and then $3,900, while $4,115 caps the near-term upside.
What could put a floor under gold? A soft US core PCE or CPI print that pushes the market to unwind July hike pricing would ease the pressure from the dollar and real yields.
Confirmed facts: the gold price range and seven-month low, the dollar index high, the 37.6% July hike probability, the easing of the Iran risk premium and the data dates are sourced from market data providers, CME pricing and the BLS/BEA calendars.
