Broker Reviews, the desk’s verdict

By Ken Chigbo, founder and macro trader, KenMacro. Updated 2026-06-04.

The desk’s verdict

As of June 2026, for the smallest possible start Star Trader takes you in at around $50, but I run my own desk through keep Blueberry as my all round pick, because how you size risk on a small account matters far more than the minimum you hand over.

The short answer

Star Trader has the lowest entry at around $50, so it suits the tiniest starting budget. Blueberry Markets is my all round pick with a low minimum and good platforms. Start on a demo first, then fund only what you can afford to lose.

Not a faceless list

This is not a comparison site that has never placed a trade. The desk trades these brokers live and posts the wins and the losses in the open, so you can see exactly what we are recommending and why. Judge it on the trades, not on our word.

The smallest real money start I rate, at around $50, with MT4, MT5 and Islamic accounts. Offshore, so less regulatory protection, and the up to 1:1000 leverage is a risk to manage, not a perk. Best when the deposit itself is the barrier.

My editor’s choice. ASIC AFSL 535887, low minimum, raw spreads, and the widest platform choice of the three with MT4, MT5, TradingView and cTrader, plus a demo. The one I point most people to for a low barrier start without giving up regulation.

Read this before you fund a small account

A low minimum deposit is a good thing. It lets you start with money you will not miss while you learn the ropes. But I have watched far too many traders treat a small balance plus high leverage as a shortcut, and it is the fastest way I know to blow up. Here is the honest version most affiliate pages will not give you. A tiny account makes proper risk management hard. If you are risking one percent per trade, which is what I do, a $100 account means risking $1 a trade, and the minimum trade size and spread can make that maths almost impossible. So treat the low minimum as a way in, not as the goal. My advice every time: start on a demo until your process is boring and repeatable, then fund with money you can genuinely afford to lose, and size your risk like an adult from the very first live trade.

How I picked these brokers

I trade live and I run a real macro desk, so I judge brokers on the things that actually cost you money: regulation, spreads, platform quality, and how easy it is to get started without a big cheque. For this page I weighted the entry barrier heavily, because the whole point is starting small. Star Trader wins on raw entry price. Blueberry both keep their minimums low while giving you stronger regulation and better tooling, which is why they sit above a pure cheapest pick for most people. I make money if you open through my links, and I would rather tell you that up front than pretend I am neutral. The trade ideas and results from my desk are public, so you can judge me on the work.

How we get paid (straight up)

Yes, the desk earns a commission if you fund through the broker links on this page, at no extra cost to you. The difference between this and most best broker lists is simple: a real macro desk stands behind it, trades these brokers with real money, and shows you the results. The incentive is visible because the trades are public. We do not ask you to trust us blindly, we show you the trades.

Star Trader: lowest entry at around $50

If your only goal is the smallest possible start, Star Trader is the lowest entry I rate, at around $50. It is an offshore broker, it offers up to 1:1000 leverage, runs MT4 and MT5, and has Islamic accounts. That leverage number should be a warning, not a selling point. On a $50 account, 1:1000 leverage is rope to hang yourself with, so dial it down and size small. Star Trader is the right call when the barrier is genuinely the deposit and you want to get hands on with the smallest real money. Being offshore, it carries less regulatory protection than my other two picks, so go in clear eyed.

Blueberry Markets: best all round low deposit

Blueberry is my editor’s choice and my all round low deposit pick. It is regulated by ASIC under AFSL 535887, keeps the minimum low, offers raw spreads, and gives you the widest platform spread of my three, with MT4, MT5, TradingView and cTrader, plus a demo account. If you want a low barrier to entry without giving up regulation or platform choice, this is the one I point most people to, and it is the broker I would start a new small account with myself if I were not already on my own desk.

How to start small without blowing up

Same routine I give everyone. One, open a demo and trade it until you are bored of being right and disciplined when you are wrong. Two, when you go live, fund with money you can lose without it changing your week. Three, cap risk at one percent per trade and accept that on a very small account this limits you, which is a feature, not a bug, because it keeps you alive. Four, ignore the headline leverage. High leverage does not make you more money on a good trade, it just deletes your account faster on a bad one. The traders who survive their first year are almost always the ones who started smaller and slower than they wanted to.

Frequently asked

What is the lowest minimum deposit forex broker?

Of the brokers I rate, Star Trader has the lowest entry at around $50. Blueberry Markets also keep their minimums low while giving you stronger regulation, which is why I point most people to them unless the deposit itself is the only barrier.

Is it worth starting forex with a small amount?

Yes, as a way to learn with real money you can afford to lose. But be honest with yourself: a small account plus high leverage is the fastest way to blow up, and a tiny balance makes proper risk management hard. Start on a demo first, then fund small and size your risk carefully.

How much should I really start with?

Start on a demo for free until your process is boring and repeatable. When you go live, fund only with money you can lose without it changing your week. The exact figure matters less than the rule: never deposit money you actually need.

Why is a small account harder to trade?

Because risking one percent per trade, which is what I do, gets awkward on a tiny balance. On a $100 account that is $1 a trade, and minimum trade sizes and spreads can make that maths nearly impossible. The smaller the account, the more discipline it demands.

Should I use high leverage on a small account?

No. Star Trader offers up to 1:1000, but high leverage does not make you more money on a good trade, it just empties your account faster on a bad one. On a small account, dial leverage down and size your positions small.

Which low deposit broker has the best regulation?

Between my picks and Blueberry Markets (ASIC AFSL 535887) carry stronger regulation than Star Trader, which is offshore. If regulation matters to you, and it should, those two are the safer low deposit choices.

Can UK traders use these brokers?

Blueberry is my all round low deposit pick and is open to a wider range of clients.

Do you earn money if I sign up through your links?

Yes. I earn a commission if you open an account through my links, and I would rather tell you that plainly than pretend I am neutral. My desk trades are public, so you can judge my picks on the work rather than on the disclosure.

General market education only, not financial advice. KenMacro earns a commission if you open an account through the broker links above, at no cost to you. Trading is leveraged and most retail accounts lose money. Spreads, terms and regulation can change, check the broker’s current terms before funding.
