Live Gold (XAU/USD) chart, interactive, data by TradingView

The gold price forecast for 17 June 2026 frames XAU/USD at $4,351 (Yahoo Finance, 07:03 GMT snapshot) consolidating directly beneath the 4350 liquidity barrier into Kevin Warsh’s first FOMC as Fed Chair. A non-hawkish statement pulls gold toward the 4440 to 4450 broken-range retest. A hawkish dot plot opens a downside ladder via 4250 then 4100.

The Macro Setup: Warsh’s First FOMC and the Gold Price Forecast Spine

Today is the spine of the gold price forecast, and it is not the rate. CME FedWatch had a hold at 3.50 to 3.75 percent priced near 97 percent into Tuesday’s close, so the target range itself is a non-event. The three variables the tape will actually trade are the FOMC statement language, the Summary of Economic Projections with the new dot plot, and Kevin Warsh’s first press conference as Chair after succeeding Jerome Powell on 22 May. Warsh has been on record as a forward-guidance sceptic, so the desk is also watching whether he withholds his own dot, which would be a signal in itself.

The risk asymmetry sits in the dots. Inflation is running well above the 2 percent target on an annualised basis, and the prior easing bias is widely expected to be scrubbed in favour of a neutral stance. If the median dot edges hike-risk back into 2026, the dollar firms and real yields lift, and gold leaks. In the 2018 hawkish-hold sequence, that is exactly the template that played out, the rate held, the dots kept hikes alive, the dollar firmed, and gold leaked lower for weeks. That is the analogue the desk is watching if Warsh leans hawkish today. The full live read on this is the kind of thing that drops daily inside the MACRO MASTERY desk.

The European tape is already pricing the asymmetry. UK CPI year-on-year printed 2.8 percent against a 3.0 percent forecast (Financial Juice, 07:13 GMT), core CPI 2.6 percent versus 2.7 percent expected. Sterling held a 1.3418 handle (Yahoo Finance, 07:12 GMT) on the soft read. ECB’s Simkus told the wires he sees “at least one more” rate increase and that capping inflation expectations matters (Financial Juice, 07:00 GMT), which has the euro at 1.1617 (Yahoo Finance, 07:12 GMT) bid against a flat DXY at 99.545 (Yahoo Finance, 07:03 GMT). Cross-asset sentiment is mixed with VIX at 19.46 and the elevated vol regime, the desk’s composite reads risk score minus 14, USD bias neutral, gold bias mildly positive at plus 7. Geopolitics is the offsetting bid the bears have to respect, the US-brokered Israel, Lebanon and Iran framework is fraying and unsigned, renewed strikes in the Beirut and southern Lebanon area have drawn Iranian warnings of harsh response, and only US intervention has held back retaliation while the MoU is negotiated. That keeps a live war premium under havens into the decision, exactly the cushion that can absorb a hawkish flush.

Trading the FOMC reaction takes a broker that holds spreads through the volatility. The desk runs Vantage, regulated, raw-spread, fast execution. Sponsorship disclosed, the read is the desk’s own.

Multi-Timeframe Read

On the daily, gold at $4,351 is consolidating directly beneath the 4350 round support that the snapshot pipeline flagged as a level scan confluence (prior-day high plus pivot R1 plus the round). The structure is a series of lower highs into the 20 SMA daily, which sits in the 4391 zone with pivot R3. That is the cap the desk has marked, until the daily prints a close back above it, the trend skew on the higher timeframe is neutral to lower despite today’s plus 0.47 percent tick higher.

Stepping to H4, the 21 EMA at 4325 has been the magnet on every pullback this week, stacked with the 4325 round and the daily pivot. Buyers have stepped in there twice in the past five sessions, which makes it the defended intraday shelf going into the print. Above current price, 4365 is the first liquidity, then 4375 where the swing high sits. The intraday tape is coiled, ATR has compressed, and the order flow into London open showed XAU at 4351.1 with XAG at 70.41 plus 0.73 percent, the silver bid running slightly hotter than the gold bid, which historically is consistent with a tape positioning for a softer dollar outcome rather than a hawkish one.

The MACRO MASTERY desk covers FOMC live as the prints land, the statement parsing, the dot plot scan, and the press conference tone all hit the room as Warsh speaks.

Scenario Map: Two Paths Off the Decision

Bull scenario (non-hawkish read). A statement that scrubs the easing bias but does not telegraph hikes, a dot plot that holds the 2026 path flat, and a Warsh press conference that emphasises data-dependence without leaning restrictive. In that case the dollar fades and real yields ease, and gold tends to get pulled back into the previously broken liquidity at 4440 to 4450, the lower edge of the prior range that broke. The path through there runs via a reclaim of 4365.03 (recent swing low plus pivot R2 plus prior-week high), then 4375.70 (the 4375 round plus recent swing high), then 4391.66 (pivot R3 plus the 20 SMA daily). The 4440 to 4450 zone is the obvious magnet on a dovish surprise because that is where the prior range broke from.

Bear scenario (hawkish read). Warsh leans hawkish across the troika, statement language firms, dots edge hike-risk back into 2026, presser tone is restrictive. The 2018 template kicks in, the dollar firms and gold confirms a lower high here. The downside ladder runs through 4347.97 (prior-day high plus pivot R1 plus 4350 round) as the first break, then 4325.00 (21 EMA H4 plus 4325 round plus daily pivot) as the first real shelf, then 4275.00 (recent swing high reclaim plus 4275 round plus pivot S3) as the line in the sand. Below 4275 the desk has 4250, then 4100, then the 4000 to 3900 zone as the major downside liquidity pockets. The offsetting bid is the live war premium from the fraying Lebanon and Iran situation, which is what would cushion the flush.

What Would Invalidate the Read

A daily close back above 4391.66 (the 20 SMA daily plus pivot R3) on dovish FOMC follow-through invalidates the lower-high structure entirely and shifts the conversation to 4440-4450 broken-liquidity retest. Conversely a daily close below 4275 forces the desk to abandon the consolidation read and switch to the 4100 then 4000 downside ladder. A sudden de-escalation in the Lebanon and Iran framework, a signed MoU on the wires, strips the war premium and amplifies any hawkish flush.

Gold Price Forecast Final Takeaway

The gold price forecast for the next 24 hours is a Warsh decision in disguise. With XAU/USD at $4,351 (Yahoo Finance, 07:03 GMT) consolidating beneath the 4350 round liquidity, the asymmetry is the dots and the presser, not the rate. The desk is watching 4365 above and 4325 below as the first tape decisions, with 4440 to 4450 the dovish objective and 4250 then 4100 the hawkish ladder. The live war premium is the variable that can absorb a hawkish print and keep the tape range-bound longer than the dots would otherwise allow.

“Today is not about the rate, it is about whether Warsh’s first dot plot tells a hike story or a hold story. Gold is sitting on the pivot for both.”

FAQ: Gold Price Forecast 17 June 2026

What is the gold price today, 17 June 2026?

XAU/USD is trading at $4,351.1 as of the 07:03 GMT snapshot on 17 June 2026 (Yahoo Finance, cross-referenced via the desk pipeline), up 0.47 percent on the session. The tape is consolidating directly beneath the 4350 round liquidity barrier into the FOMC decision at 18:00 GMT and Kevin Warsh’s first press conference as Chair at 18:30 GMT.

Why is today’s FOMC meeting different?

Today is Kevin Warsh’s first FOMC meeting as Federal Reserve Chair after succeeding Jerome Powell on 22 May 2026. The rate is priced for a hold at 3.50 to 3.75 percent at near 97 percent probability on CME FedWatch, so the market-moving variables are the statement language, the Summary of Economic Projections and dot plot, and the tone of Warsh’s first press conference, not the policy rate itself.

What level does gold need to break for a bullish move?

A reclaim of 4365.03, where the recent swing low plus pivot R2 plus prior-week high stack, opens the first leg higher. The path then runs through 4375.70 and 4391.66 (the 20 SMA daily plus pivot R3). A daily close above 4391.66 on dovish FOMC follow-through opens the 4440 to 4450 broken-range retest, which is the obvious dovish magnet.

What level invalidates the bullish gold structure?

A daily close below 4275.00, where the recent swing high reclaim plus 4275 round plus pivot S3 confluence sits, flips the structure to the downside ladder. Below 4275 the desk has 4250, then 4100, then the 4000 to 3900 zone as the major downside liquidity pockets, consistent with the 2018 hawkish-hold template playing out.

How does the Lebanon and Iran situation affect gold?

The US-brokered Israel, Lebanon and Iran framework is fraying and unsigned. Renewed Israeli strikes in the Beirut and southern Lebanon area have drawn Iranian warnings of harsh response, and only US intervention has held back retaliation. That keeps a live war premium under havens, which is the variable that can cushion any hawkish-driven flush in gold by amplifying the safe-haven bid even as the dollar firms.

Is gold a buy ahead of the FOMC decision?

The desk does not issue specific trade ideas in public analysis. The terrain into the decision is asymmetric, with 4350 as the pivot, 4440 to 4450 as the dovish objective, and 4250 then 4100 as the hawkish ladder. The decision risk cuts both ways, and the live war premium adds a second layer of variability. Risk management decisions belong with the reader and their own portfolio.

What is the connection between Warsh and gold?

Warsh is a known forward-guidance sceptic, which means he may withhold his own dot from the Summary of Economic Projections, a signal of policy ambiguity in itself. If the median dot edges 2026 hike risk back in, the dollar firms and real yields lift, which historically pressures gold via the standard transmission mechanism, the channel that drove the 2018 hawkish-hold leak lower in the metal.
