GBP/USD Price Analysis, 15 June 2026: Cable Hits a Two-Week High at the 1.3450 Pivot, Fed Then BOE Decide the Week
Cable has climbed to around 1.344, its highest since early June, as the dollar slid to a 10-day low on the US-Iran deal. The pound is testing the pivot that has capped it before, and it walks into the busiest possible week to try and break it: the Fed on Wednesday and the Bank of England on Thursday, back to back. This is a two-step week for sterling, and the first step is the dollar.

Every call posted live and timestamped. A recent week ran +32.21R, 24 wins from 30 calls, an 80% strike, marked before each move, not after. On an FOMC week, the edge is having the levels and the bias before the number drops.
Why GBP/USD moved today
The push higher is mostly a dollar story. The US-Iran framework deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz crashed oil and pulled the safe-haven bid out of the dollar, dropping the index to a 10-day low near 99.5 and lifting the higher-beta majors, the pound included. Sterling has a little of its own support too: the Bank of England backdrop is a hold at 3.75% with a forward path that has turned more hawkish, so the rate gap is not working against the pound the way it is against, say, the euro. But make no mistake, the immediate fuel is dollar weakness, and that fuel is at the mercy of Wednesday’s FOMC.
Today turns entirely on the US-Iran framework deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is allowing the risk-on moves, but the deal is unsigned and ringed with risks that can snap it back. Read the full desk breakdown before you trade off it.
The technicals: key levels
Levels approximate, intraday as of 15 June 2026, GBP/USD around 1.3440 (up about 0.3%). Prices cross-referenced across TradingEconomics, Reuters and Investing.com.
| Zone | Level | The desk’s read |
|---|---|---|
| Resistance | 1.3596 to 1.3600 | the bigger pivot cable failed at before, the range high on a sustained dollar breakdown |
| Resistance | 1.3500 | the round-number resistance above the pivot |
| Pivot | 1.3450 to 1.3475 | the level being tested now, the yearly open and prior pivot, a daily close above it is the bullish trigger |
| Support | 1.3400 | Friday’s close and the round number, first support on any dollar bounce |
| Support | 1.3280 to 1.3360 | the pivotal support band, where the breakout would be invalidated |
GBP/USD is pressing the 1.3450 to 1.3475 pivot, the zone that aligns with the yearly open and prior swing pivots. Momentum is constructive after reclaiming 1.34, but the pair has not yet closed above the pivot, so the breakout is unconfirmed. The desk’s read: bullish while 1.3400 holds, with a daily close above 1.3475 needed to open the next leg, and the catalyst for that close is the dollar’s reaction to Warsh.
The trade into Wednesday’s FOMC
Wednesday, the Fed. A dovish or balanced Warsh that breaks the dollar sends cable through 1.3475 toward 1.3500 then 1.3596. A hawkish Warsh that gets the dollar dip bought rejects sterling back to 1.3400 then the 1.3360 area.
Thursday, the Bank of England. The BOE decision lands the very next day. Consensus is a hold at 3.75%, so the trade is in the vote split and the tone of the minutes. A hawkish lean stacked on top of a soft dollar is the cleanest bull case for the pound this week; a dovish set of minutes is the fade. Sterling trades the Fed, then trades the BOE. Full map in the Week Ahead.
Bottom line
Cable is at a two-week high on a soft dollar, pressing the 1.3450 to 1.3475 pivot that has stopped it before. It is bullish while 1.3400 holds, but the breakout needs Wednesday’s Fed and Thursday’s BOE to line up. Respect the pivot until a daily close clears it.
GBP/USD FAQ
Why did GBP/USD rise on 15 June 2026?
GBP/USD rose to around 1.344, its highest since early June, mainly because the dollar fell to a 10-day low after the US-Iran framework deal reopened the Strait of Hormuz, crashed oil and lifted risk appetite. A relatively hawkish Bank of England backdrop also supports the pound.
What are the key GBP/USD levels now?
The pivot being tested is 1.3450 to 1.3475 (the yearly open and prior swing pivots). A daily close above it opens 1.3500 then 1.3596 to 1.3600. Support is 1.3400 then the 1.3280 to 1.3360 band.
What events move the pound this week?
It is a two-step week. The Fed decision and Warsh’s dot plot land Wednesday, then the Bank of England decides Thursday with a likely hold at 3.75%. Sterling trades the dollar first, then the BOE vote split and minutes.
