GBP/USD Price Analysis: Cable Coils in a Bear Flag, 1.3410 Liquidity the Magnet into CPI (10 June 2026)
By Ken Chigbo, founder of KenMacro, 2026-06-10. GBP/USD price analysis with the desk’s read on the tape. Educational only, not financial advice.
Cable bounced off the protected 1.3300 liquidity earlier this week and is now pulling back inside a bear flag, trading near 1.3387 with the structure still intact. Tuesday printed the highs of the week, and the desk is watching price possibly come up to challenge them, a sweep of the liquidity into the 1.3410 area for equal highs, before further selling. The first support to retest is 1.3380; lose that and 1.3310, the low of the week so far, becomes the draw. Today’s CPI is the trigger.
Setup
Cable coils in a bear flag, 1.3410 is the magnet
GBP/USD is consolidating near 1.3387 in a bear flag after bouncing off the protected 1.3300 liquidity. The desk eyes a sweep of the 1.3410 equal highs then selling on a hot CPI, with 1.3380 the support and 1.3310 the week-low draw.
Where GBP/USD sits right now
GBP/USD trades near 1.3387, pulling back inside a bear flag after bouncing off the very key 1.3300 liquidity it protected earlier this week. The structure is intact, this is a consolidation, not a breakdown. Tuesday’s session printed the highs of the week, and the desk’s read is that price may want to come back up and challenge those highs, a sweep of liquidity that draws the pair into the 1.3410 area for a set of equal highs before the next leg. To the downside, 1.3380 is the first level to retest; if that gives way, the move opens back toward 1.3310, the low of the week so far. CPI resolves it.

What is driving the tape
The dollar is the driver, not the pound. A strong US jobs print lifted Fed rate-path pricing and yields, and cable is trading the other side of that. Sterling’s own story is secondary while the dollar runs the tape.
Liquidity is the map. Tuesday’s highs left a pool of resting orders around 1.3410, and markets reach for liquidity. A stretch up to sweep those equal highs before rolling over is the desk’s cleaner short scenario, rather than chasing the pair lower early.
Today’s CPI is the resolver. A hot US inflation print, the desk’s base case at a forecast three-year high, ramps rate-path pricing again and is the trigger to push GBP/USD back through 1.3380 toward 1.3310. A cooler number is the risk and would let the bounce challenge and clear 1.3410.
The trade the desk is watching
- The desk wants the sweep first. Let price challenge the 1.3410 equal highs if it stretches for them, and treat the rejection as the trigger rather than pre-empting it.
- Downside on a hot CPI, lose 1.3380 and the move opens toward 1.3310, the week low.
- 1.3300 to 1.3310 is the protected liquidity that has been the floor this week, so the desk respects it as both a target and a level buyers will defend.

What would break the trade
- A sustained break and hold above 1.3410 clears the equal highs and shifts the near-term bias, opening 1.3450.
- A cool CPI today softens the dollar and gives cable room to take 1.3410 and run.
- A clean loss of the 1.3300 to 1.3310 protected liquidity would be a structural shift, not just a flag resolution, and the desk would respect the change of character.

Frequently asked questions
Why is cable consolidating rather than falling?
GBP/USD bounced off the protected 1.3300 liquidity earlier this week and is pulling back in a bear flag near 1.3387 with the structure intact. The desk reads it as a consolidation that may first sweep the 1.3410 equal highs before the next leg, not a breakdown yet.
What sends GBP/USD lower again?
A hot US CPI today. It would push Fed rate-path pricing and yields up, strengthen the dollar and roll cable back through 1.3380 toward 1.3310, the low of the week so far.
Where does the bias shift up?
A sustained break and hold above 1.3410 clears the equal highs and opens 1.3450. A cool CPI would be the catalyst. On the downside, losing the 1.3300 to 1.3310 protected liquidity would be the structural break lower.
