Bitcoin Price Analysis: Risk-Off Bites, BTC Loses the Low-63ks, 68k the Line (8 June 2026)

By Ken Chigbo, founder of KenMacro, 2026-06-08. Bitcoin (BTC/USD) price analysis with the desk’s read on the tape. Educational only, not financial advice.

Bitcoin is changing hands near $61,200, cross-referenced across Coinbase ($61,180), Binance ($61,250) and Kraken ($61,190), after the low-63ks relief bounce failed and risk-off plus a dollar breakout dragged it lower. The structure is unambiguously bearish, lower highs and lower lows, with the head-and-shoulders neckline that broke on 19 January still unreclaimed, and a hot US jobs report has entrenched higher-for-longer: surging real yields and a ripping dollar drain liquidity from risk, and BTC is the high-beta risk asset that wears it first. Want the desk’s full read on BTC, plus the AI desk, the live trade ideas and the £499 course at no cost? The Israel-Iran escalation is risk-off here, not a safe-haven bid, so treat bounces as counter-trend until BTC reclaims 68,000.

Friday’s hot payrolls lit a fire under the dollar and yields, and the high-beta risk asset paid for it. The small relief bounce off the low-63ks failed and BTC slid through it, now trading around $61,200. Structure stays firmly bearish: lower highs, lower lows, neckline still unreclaimed. The desk is leaning on 60,000 and 58,000 as the next downside shelves.

Where Bitcoin (BTC/USD) sits right now

Price sits around 61,200, with Coinbase at 61,180, Binance at 61,250 and Kraken at 61,190, so the prints agree and there is no exchange dislocation to fade. The story of the last two sessions is simple: Friday’s hot payrolls put a bid under the dollar and yields, BTC squeezed a small relief bounce off the low-63ks, and that bounce failed over the weekend as risk-off took hold. From there it slid straight through the low-63ks and into the low-61ks, extending the same pattern the chart has printed for months, lower highs and lower lows. The 70,000 and 68,000 liquidity pockets were already breached on the way down, so there is no recent demand shelf overhead until you get back to 68,000 itself. The head-and-shoulders neckline that gave way on 19 January remains unreclaimed, which keeps the bearish read intact and frames every push higher as counter-trend. Below, the desk watches 60,000 as the obvious round-number magnet, and 58,000 underneath it as the next real test if 60,000 cracks.

What is driving the tape

Friday’s US Non-Farm Payrolls printed hot. Jobs beat to the upside, running above the moderate 115k to 178k pace the market had grown used to, and wages stayed elevated and sticky. That combination is the higher-for-longer trigger, and the reaction was immediate: CME FedWatch hike odds jumped, the 2y and 10y yields lurched higher, and real yields followed. Rising real yields are the cleanest drag on bitcoin there is, because they raise the bar a non-yielding risk asset has to clear.

The dollar broke out and is ripping. A firmer dollar tightens global liquidity, and BTC trades as the high-beta end of risk in this regime, so a dollar bid plus higher real yields is a double drain. This is not a crypto-specific story, it is a macro plumbing story, and bitcoin is downstream of it. Until the dollar trend stalls, rallies in BTC are fighting the current.

Kevin Warsh chairs the Fed and reads hawkish, and this was his first payrolls report at the helm. The next catalyst is the 16 to 17 June FOMC, next week, where a hawkish hold or hawkish guidance would reinforce the higher-for-longer pricing the jobs number kicked off. The desk is not positioning for a dovish surprise into that meeting given the data on the table.

The Israel-Iran war escalated over the weekend, and the tell is in how BTC traded it. There was no safe-haven bid, no digital-gold flight; it sold off with risk. That confirms the regime: in stress, bitcoin behaves like a leveraged equity beta, not a hedge. So the geopolitics here add to the weight on price rather than relieving it.

The trade the desk is watching

  • Bias stays bearish. The desk treats every bounce as counter-trend until BTC reclaims 68,000, and only a reclaim of 70,000 above it genuinely questions the structure.
  • Downside map: 60,000 is the round-number magnet and first test, then 58,000 if 60,000 gives way. Those are where the desk looks to manage, not chase.
  • The desk does not short blindly into support. Oversold bounces in a downtrend can be violent, and selling straight into 60,000 is poor location. The plan is to fade rallies into resistance, not to stab at the floor.
  • Resistance to sell into sits back at the breached pockets: the low-63ks where the bounce just failed, then 68,000, the line that has to be reclaimed to flip the read.
  • Risk first, always. Position sizing assumes a fast two-way tape into next week’s FOMC, and the desk keeps powder dry rather than forcing a trade at midpoint.

What would break the trade

  • A clean break and hold below 60,000 opens 58,000 quickly, and a daily close under 58,000 would signal the downtrend extending rather than basing.
  • A reclaim of 68,000 is the first crack in the bearish thesis; it would put the failed bounce zone behind price and force the desk to respect a deeper squeeze.
  • A reclaim of 70,000 above that, holding on a closing basis, neutralises the bearish structure and reopens the unreclaimed January neckline as the real battleground.
  • A dovish surprise, a soft revision to the jobs picture or any de-escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict could ease the dollar and yields, and that liquidity relief is the most likely fuel for a sharp counter-trend bounce.

Frequently asked questions

Why is bitcoin falling after a strong US jobs report?

A hot payrolls print with sticky wages entrenches higher-for-longer rate expectations. That pushed real yields and the dollar higher, and both drain liquidity from risk assets. Bitcoin is the high-beta end of risk in this regime, so it gets hit harder than most.

Isn’t bitcoin a safe haven during a war?

Not in this regime. The Israel-Iran escalation over the weekend triggered risk-off, and BTC sold off with risk rather than catching a flight-to-safety bid. The desk reads it as leveraged equity beta right now, not digital gold.

What levels matter for BTC this week?

On the downside, 60,000 is the round-number test and 58,000 sits below it. On the upside, 68,000 is the reclaim that questions the bearish structure and 70,000 is the level that would neutralise it. The 16 to 17 June FOMC next week is the next macro catalyst.

Should I short bitcoin at support?

The desk does not short blindly into support like 60,000. Oversold bounces in a downtrend can be violent, and selling at the floor is poor location. The plan is to wait for rallies into resistance and fade those, while keeping the bias bearish until BTC reclaims 68,000.
